DRIVER NEEDED

We prepare over 1,000 hot meals every day.  These are delivered in bulk quantities of twenty to hundreds, in our own vehicles, to partner organisations that distribute them to people in need. We need drivers for these deliveries.

Reports to:  Director of Operations

RESPONSABILITIES:

·       Deliver meals as per defined schedule.

·       Liaise with partner organisation to whom meals are delivered.

·       Cleanliness and good working order of Food for Thought’s vehicles (all expenses are covered by Food for Thought)

Tasks and Responsibilities:

·       Food delivery:

1.Carefully packs, loads, unloads, and delivers all the meals prepared and packaged at the kitchen to various partner locations according to daily schedules.

2. Follows food safety rules and takes precautions to ensure that meals are delivered within allowable delays, in a safe and clean manner.

3. Collects and keeps track of delivery containers and utensils sent to various locations.

4. Occasionally runs errands to stores for groceries and other items for items we need urgently (normally all materials are delivered by our suppliers to our kitchen).

5. Ensure accurate and timely deliveries to all locations.

6. Review routes and schedules and discuss route optimisation with the Operations Head.

7. Manage multiple orders and delivery locations at the same time.

8. Take initiative to contact relevant partner or Food for Thought personnel in case of late of difficulty in delivery.

·       Client Interactions

1.     Engages and interacts with our distribution partners on a regular basis during deliveries to ensure their satisfaction and report any feedback.

2.     Maintains a positive and cheerful attitude during all client interactions.

·       Vehicle Maintenance and upkeep –

1.     Will make sure that the organization’s vehicles are clean, kept in good condition and up to date with service requirements

2.     Ensures safety of all equipment and passengers in the vehicle.

3.     Ensure that only passengers required for delivery are on board.

4.     Keeps proof of all expenses such as gas receipts and submits them to our accounting department, unless the invoice is sent directly to Food for Thought by our assigned repair and maintenance providers. 

·       Other tasks -

1.     helps with food packaging as needed.

2.     Sorting and organizing deliveries and other items.

3.     Helps with day to day clean up, maintenance and general upkeep of the packaging area of our kitchen.

4.     Helps organize the food packaging area with the rest of the packaging team.

5.     Always maintains positive and meaningful communications with the staff, volunteers and partners.

6.     Understands food safety basics and adheres to those practices in coordination with the rest of the team.

Skills and Qualifications:

·       A Valid Drivers License

·       COVID vaccination

·       Bilingual (French) is an asset

·       Maintains a good driving record.

·       Ability to lift and carry heavy food bags and pans and drive vehicle for prolonged periods of time.

·       Detail oriented and organized

·       Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and written communications.

·       Ability to navigate the vehicle through different locations across the city in traffic and construction zones.

·       Safely operates the vehicle in all weather conditions.

·       A Safe Food Handler Certificate will be necessary and if not in hand at the time of employment will be required within 2 months.   The course and time required for certification would be paid by Food for Thought.

·       We anticipate starting deliveries in right hand drive manual delivery vehicles.  Experience with manual transmission is required. Training for Right hand driving will be provided if you are not already experienced

SHIFTS

·       We anticipate a morning, afternoon, and week-end shifts.  These are to be set and assigned.  No night shifts are anticipated.
